This beautiful piece was sent to me by both Loomis and my friend Liz. They each know me well enough to know it would resonate with me.
So, this will be my last blog post until September. I’m on my 17th summer and I want to be present for as much as I can. This article was a good reminder to not let the flip flops and wet towels all over our cabana make me nuts. It will be as neat as a pin before I know it. And, I’ll miss the chaos.
That said, I will be investing some time this summer with my new passion project: The Nantucket/Neighborhood Project. Here’s the lowdown.
This spring, I had the privilege of meeting Tom Scott, the co-founder of this project. Tom is the real deal and within 30 seconds of
meeting accosting him I knew I had to jump in and get involved.
The Nantucket Project is an annual conference that takes place in September in ACK. Its goal is to create a powerful distillation of ideas that will spark conversation, and ultimately lead to meaning full change. Past presenters include Jennifer Garner, Mark Shriver, Tony Blair, Deepak Chopra, Hope Solo and Paul Giamatti. One of my favorite authors, Kelly Corrigan is also the writer-in-residence and Creative Director for TNP.
My pal Tom wanted to bring the ideas and creativity that came from The Nantucket Project into people’s homes. Thus, The Neighborhood Project was born. Think book club without the book. Added bonus: it helps create healthier communities by encouraging more meaningful conversation.
I have participated in 2 neighborhood groups, and both times the conversations were incredible. No small talk. No looking at my phone. No talking about our kids.
If you are interested in learning more, shoot me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) I could have kept this super short by simply saying “Trust me. It’s cool.”
It really is.
Have an awesome summer. See you on the other side.
P.S. One other place you may find me this summer is is in East Hampton. We have a glorious, gorgeous Beautycouner pop up shop on Newtown Lane. If you are out east, drop in and check it out. I can’t wait to hear what you think!
