The alternate title for this blog post could be “Things Loomis would never, ever do/try/survive.”
I, on the other hand, am a total fitness junkie. I love new things in general, and I’m always up for trying the latest and greatest workout. So, when Solidcore came to town, you betcha I was curious.
[solidcore] is unlike any workout you’ve ever done before. It’s a high-intensity, low-impact 50-minute session that is done as slow as possible to lengthen and tone your body. Don’t let the slow fool you… it’s hard. You can expect a full–body session using controlled movements on a resistance-based machine, exclusive to [solidcore] to work your slow and fast-twitch muscles to the point of failure.
My friend/Beautycounter babe/Best Bar Method teacher ever Pam invited me to try it with her.
(Hi Pam!)
It only took 100 tries to schedule it due to my crazy calendar in the summer (damn kids), but we finally got it on the books. The staff at Solidcore was upbeat welcoming and friendly, starting from the initial email when I booked the class. I was super lucky to have rock star fitness legend Sabine as our teacher.
As a newbie, I got there 15 minutes early, and Sabine took me around the room and explained the workout. Each person in the class has their very own one of these.
I was scared/excited/ready to do this! I was literally dripping sweat about 5 minutes in — which I love (psycho, I know!)
This workout was challenging, and this is coming from someone who has been working on improving her core strength for about a year now. I liked that it moved quickly from one sequence to the next (you aren’t the only one with ADD, Loomis). Superstar Sabine literally talked you through the entire class, so you knew what was coming next. The music was upbeat and kept you going. Like when you wanted to die!
There was motivation and positive affirmation galore, and you know I love that stuff.
I was VERY proud of myself for surviving it, and it for sure helped to have my buddy/inspiration Pam with me. If you are going to try it, I would recommend going with a friend. I felt better when I checked the FAQ’s and saw this:
Triathletes, marathoners, crossfitters, and athletes of all kinds tell us [solidcore] is the hardest workout they have ever tried. You’re going to love the way you feel in class and after class.
I was also glad they warned me I would be sore after the class, because I was!
Would I go back? You betcha!
Already planning on asking Santa for a 5-pack of classes.
Who is coming with me?
